Welcome! I’m so happy you’re here.
My name is Megan McDonald, and I’m a longtime lifestyle journalist and editor based in Pittsburgh, PA. I always wanted to be a writer—when I was a little girl, I’d plop down in front of my grandfather’s word processor for hours and write stories about my dolls. When I was a teenager, I became obsessed with magazines—Sassy (the best, although I might have been a liiiiiittle young for it when I was reading it), YM, Seventeen and, later, Glamour, Martha Stewart, Blueprint (anyone remember that one?!) and more. I was determined to get a job at a magazine after I graduated from college, and I’m proud to say that I did—and that I continue to work in publishing today, for that very same magazine.
Of course, I was also captivated by blogging, which, to me, seemed to be an extension of the magazine journalism I loved so much. I signed up for a LiveJournal in 2002, where I wrote angsty posts and quoted Dashboard Confessional, and avidly read blogs like Design*Sponge, Decor8, Oh Joy! and Cup of Jo.
Now, I’m excited to combine my love of telling people’s stories with my love of blogging and newsletters here on Substack. The Interview will feature, well, interviews with local women who are doing amazing things here in Pittsburgh—artists, small business owners, thought leaders and more.
I’m beyond grateful to the wonderful women who have already agreed to participate. The first interview will go live very soon, and I can’t wait for you to read it. The Interview is free, but please do subscribe so you never miss a post.
Talk soon!
